2)      The literal translation is ‘like a fish lacking oxygen.’ That doesn’t sound very romantic, but then again, HZ is ever the poet.

3)      没有之一 (méiyǒu zhī yī): Literally “no one else,” as in ‘no one else can compare.’ The absolute most.

4)      Here the author uses the word “Call” in English. In Chinese internet slang, the word ‘call’ refers to the cheering/encouragement/praise of fans for an idol. Thus, ‘call’ is used to replace the cheering emoji.

5)      The author uses ‘syt’ (slang?) which I couldn’t find any reference to, so I’ll substitute it with something that make sense.

6)      xswl (笑死我了) (xiào sǐ wǒ le; xswl) literally means “laughing to death” and is used by speakers to respond to something funny, comparable to LOL in English.

7)      “Ji Yu, give me a duck!” 冲鸭 (chong ya) (red duck): Chinese Internet slang for a cheering expression for selling meng, and mean to have full of vigor and fighting spirit.

8)      Handstand shampoo: an internet trend where a person attempt to ‘washes’ their hair upside down in various ways.
