Chapter 83: Admission Test (II)
Xu Ling looked at the results with
disbelief in her eyes. After confirming it several times, she walked towards
the Dean of Card Crafting with a solemn expression and handed in the results.
“Dean, this is the results of Student Yu’s examination.” Xu Ling’s
eyebrows furrowed.
Ruan Ming Ji took Yu Jin Li’s test results and saw the big
D+ mental power level. His calm expression finally had a small crack.
He couldn’t understand, how could a person recommended by Master
Kamon only have a mental power of “D+”? This is considered the lowest level
within the entire First Military Academy.
One must understand that the admission process for First Military
Academy is very rigorous. Even more so, the Card Crafting Major, being a core
profession and the most important talent of the Federation, has extremely
demanding admission requirements.
Generally, a student candidate must have mental power of at least
B level or above to be eligible for enrollment. Even for children of wealthy
family taking the backdoor, admission requires at least C level or above.
In other words, if Yu Jin Li is admitted into the College of Card
Crafting, then he will be the only person in the entire school with a mental
power level of D.
Suddenly, Ruan Ming Ji looked at Yu Jin Li, his gaze became
tangled.
It can be easily understood that this boy, who was personally brought
in by both the Principal and the Major General and has a hand-written letter of
recommendation by Master Kamon himself, was certainly someone with an extremely
powerful backing.
In that case, even if he has low mental power, Ruan Ming Ji could
probably come up with some reasonable excuse to just let him enter the College
of Card Crafting directly.
However…
The current
situation is somewhat awkward.
Li Yiyi was someone who has prejudices against privileged students
who wanted to enter the school this late in the year. After a glimpse at Yu Jin
Li’s test results, she said sarcastically, “A mental power of only D grade? Are
you sure you haven’t enter the wrong school? The lowest level mental power in
our school is B grade. With your mental power, you won’t be able to enter First
Military Academy in this lifetime.”
Yu Jin Li was expecting to be able to fulfill his dream of going
to school and attending classes after the exam was over, but who knows why the
situation have changed. After listening to Li Yiyi’s words and seeing Ruan Ming
Ji’s expression, his high mood suddenly fell.
Yu Jin Li is actually very sensitive to other people’s emotion.
Li Yiyi’s pointing out his lack of ability and qualification, was
a blatant display of her contempt and disdain for him. It had reminded him of
that painful past where he failed the college entrance examination.
Sure enough, he couldn’t study well, he always failed his exams,
and he couldn’t go to school like everyone else.
Jiang Mo Sheng, who had always been paying attention to Yu Jin Li,
took noticed of this mood change at once. He frowned and glared at Li Yiyi with
dissatisfaction. His gaze was freezing cold, and filled the other person with
pure terror.
“Don’t worry. Little Chestnut is so excellent, the school will
rush to invite you.” Jiang Mo Sheng reached out and touched the soft hair,
while comforting Yu Jin Li with a gentle voice.
When Jiang Mo Sheng faces the Dean and
the two teachers once again, his gentle nature disappears, replaced with an
expressionless and icy look that made the three people can’t help but shivers.
They serious doubt if the person standing before them now and the person that
was gently comforting Yu Jin Li before was even the same person?
“I seemed to recall that there was actually two ways to fulfill
the admission requirement.” Jiang Mo Sheng said in a deep and magnetic voice
that was not too slow and not too fast. Although it was very nice to hear, his
tone made people not dare to have any ideas.
“The first is that the person’s mental power must be at least
level B or higher. The second is that they can produce an energy card on the
spot. A candidate only has to meet one out of two criteria to be admitted.
Isn’t that right, Dean Ruan?”
“Major General Jiang is right. Yu Jin Li will pass as long as he
satisfied one out of those two requirements. However, he has D level mental
power and is only 18 years old. How could he be able to produce an energy
card?” Before Ruan Ming Ji could speak, Li Yiyi had taken the initiative to
answer’s Jiang Mo Sheng’s questions on her own. Her eyes kept falling on Jiang
Mo Sheng from time to time.
Most of the freshmen who takes the entrance
exam are teenagers that has just came of age. Except for the children of large
family, most of them haven’t even touch a real energy card before, let alone
being able to produce one.
Some gifted children may have had professional card craftsman guiding
them from young, but even then, only a handful of freshmen could actually
produce a card before coming to school. They are all exceptionally talented and
have extremely high level of mental power.
Want her (Li Yiyi) to believe that Yu Jin Li can produce an energy
card? She might as well believe that his mental power can grow.
As a matter of fact, aside from Jiang Mo Sheng, none of the others
present, including Dean Ruan and the two teachers, knew that Yu Jin Li’s mental
power had actually grown. His mental power went from D to D+, a tiny
incremental growth.
In this world, things such as physical attributes and constitution
can be improve through physical training. Similarly, powers and abilities of
ability user can also be improve through training, albeit not as easily.
The only thing that cannot be improve, however, is the mental
power level of card craftsmen. Whatever level they received during their mental
awakening is whatever level they will be stuck at for the rest of their lives.
This is precisely the reason why First Military Academy only
recruit students whose mental power is B level or above.
Had mental power been something that’s upgradable, the Academy
could have recruited more low-level students with excellent talent potential.
With the right kind of training and sufficient leveling, the achievement of
these students will definitely not be any less than that of those with higher
innate mental level.
Alas, mental power was something that could not grow!
Due to the importance of this matter, Jiang Mo Sheng did intend to
expose the fact that Yu Jin Li’s mental power had grown over a short period of
time. As for when it eventually comes out in the future, he will just have to
figure out how to deal with it before then.
“How would he know if he doesn’t try?” Jiang Mo Sheng said coldly.
His eyes pierce all the teachers present, making them feel as if their body
were sliced by a sharp knife.
“Since fulfilling just one of the two conditions is enough, then go
ahead and arrange an energy card production test for Xiao Yu.” The principal,
Xiao Guo Tai, said in a hurry, afraid that if he dawdles any longer, he would
be frozen to death by Jiang Mo Sheng.
After all, he is too old to survive being in this ‘deep freeze’
any longer.
The principal had already spoken, so, although Li Yiyi was
dissatisfied, she dared not utter a single word. Instead, she went to prepare
the blank energy cards for the test, and her heart was full of malicious
thoughts, thinking about how Yu Jin Li would make a fool out of himself later.
To think a person with D level mental power would dared to come to
First Military Academy to take the entrance exam.
It’s simply absurd.
As part of the testing process, the school had prepared a separate
room in which the student may craft cards in. On one hand, this is to provide
the student with a quiet and undisturbed place to focus on producing energy
cards. On the other hand, it is also to prevent accidents, such as explosion as
a result of crafting failure, from affecting the audience.
At this moment, Yu Jin Li was alone inside one of the testing rooms,
while everyone else was watching from the outside through a camera monitor.
The testing room is actually very simple, one chair, one table,
and a single F-level blank energy card on the table.
The simple layout of the testing room
is probably to prevent losses in case of an accidental explosion.
Yu Jin Li glanced
at the blank energy card, but did not immediately begin. Instead, he looked
around curiously.
Watching through the camera, Xu Ling saw that there was only one
blank card, and couldn’t help but took a glance at Li Yiyi, who was in charge
of the testing preparations.
Typically, freshman who take the exam are provided with three
blank energy cards. After all, no one, not even master craftsmen who have been
in the profession for many years, can guaranteed that their first try will have
100% success.
However, Yu Jin Li was only provided
with a single blank card. Li Yiyi’s intentions are obvious.
Xu Ling couldn’t help but sighed for Yu Jin Li.
Although she sympathizes with Yu Jin Li very much, she couldn’t
fight to defend him. She might not know why Li Yiyi hates this boy so much, but
what she does know is that Li Yiyi’s family background is not something she
could afford to offend.
Xu Ling can only hope that Yu Jin Li really does have talent in
card crafting and succeed.
After observing the environment for a while, Yu Jin Li keenly
discovered that there were hidden cameras in the testing room. Aware that there
are people watching him, he tilted his head and began thinking about what type
of energy card to make.
“It’s been so long, and he hasn’t even started yet. Is he thinking
about giving up directly?” Li Yiyi sneered sarcastically. It’s just as she had
said, how could an inexperience hairy brat make an energy card? It’s simply a
fantasy.
Besides, that boy looked as if he was deliberately trying to delay
for time, and, as a result, ends up wasting everybody else’s time. In the
beginning, she should have insisted on not allowing him to participate in this
test.
However, as soon as Li Yiyi’s voice fell, on the screen, Yu Jin Li
picked up the blank card and began the crafting process without any hesitation.
The slap on her face was so fast, Li Yiyi actually felt something
burning on her face. She immediately became even more angry at Yu Jin Li.
She now fully believes that he was deliberately provoking her, but
completely forgot that he was isolated inside the testing room, with no way of
hearing what she had said.
Yu Jin Li controlled his mental power and began slowly drawing the
outline of the heart-shaped grass onto the energy card. So far, the
heart-shaped grass was the only thing that Yu Jin Li was most proficient at
drawing, with a 100% success rate. Even if he is distracted, he will not fail.
This decision was a result of much thoughts, and, in the end, he
decided to be safe and draw the shape he was most familiar with.
As he draws, Yu Jin Li thought about what his ‘golden thigh’ had
said before coming here.
“Little Chestnut, when we arrive at school, if you want to take a
card crafting test, then you should try to extend the crafting time for as long
as possible. Don’t finish it too quickly.” Jiang Mo Sheng urged.
“Why?” Yu Jin Li was puzzled.
“Little Chestnut’s ability is too powerful. You can make a strong
card in such a short amount of time. The students in the College of Card
Crafting definitely can’t match that. However, exposing yourself so much at the
beginning can easily attract the attention of others and may even bring dangers
to yourself.” Jiang Mo Sheng earnestly advised.
For Jiang Mo Sheng, his first priority is always Yu Jin Li’s
safety. He doesn’t need for the little guy to have shining achievement, but
only for the boy to be safe and enjoys a happy campus life.
Jiang Mo Sheng is aware of how competitive the culture of First
Military Academy is, as well as all the fierce intrigue and drama among the
students. He simply cannot allow these external factors to affect his little
guy’s school experience.
“Ok, I got it.” Yu Jin Li nodded. He understands that everything
Ah Sheng said was for his own good, so he was right to be obedient.
Thus, on this test, Yu Jin Li deliberately slowed down the
crafting process, drawing the lines slowly, one by one.
